Hello everyone,
I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experienced test center disruptions and gone through the GMAC complaint or retest process.
I recently took the GMAT at a test center where
active construction work was ongoing on the upper floor during the exam. The noise (drilling/hammering) was persistent and made it difficult to maintain concentration across sections. Despite trying to continue, the disturbance did not subside.
Midway through the test, I had to
change my seat in an attempt to reduce the distraction. As expected, this interruption affected my focus and test flow, especially given the adaptive nature of the exam.
This was my
second attempt, and unfortunately my score does not reflect my preparation level. I scored
645 (Q83, V84, DI 79), whereas in recent
official GMAT mocks I was consistently scoring 705+. I went into the exam well-prepared and confident, which is why the outcome was especially frustrating.
Given the circumstances, I’ve already submitted a
formal complaint to GMAC, documenting the disturbance and seat change. My concern now is around timelines. With
Round 2 application deadlines approaching, I’m worried whether GMAC’s review and any potential retest would happen early enough for scores to be reported.
I’d really appreciate insight from anyone who has:
- Filed a similar testing-conditions complaint with GMAC
- Successfully received a complimentary retest
- Experience with response timelines and next steps
Is there anything else you would recommend doing while waiting for GMAC’s review (e.g., following up with Pearson, providing additional documentation, or requesting a test center incident report)?
Thank you in advance for any guidance. This forum has been incredibly helpful throughout my prep, and I’d appreciate any advice from those who have navigated a similar situation.
Best regards,
harsh
