Is the estimated score in the
error log reliable?
Hi. The estimate in the
error log is based on comparing your performance versus performance of other users and then calculating an estimated GMAT score based on that. It is helpful to give you an idea how you’re doing with your particular practice and your particular questions in the last couple of weeks.
However, even though you’re compared to a very large database of users, if you’re only attempting certain types of questions, your score can be inflated. For example if you’re only practicing subject verb agreement or inference questions, you may get really good at them but it doesn’t mean your score will be as high if you have any practice geometry or assumption questions.
Also, when estimating a score we take into consideration the number of parameters including how many people answer this question incorrectly and how your time compares to them. If you’re extra slow, will they punish you for taking extra time during the estimation process.
Many of these elements CAN make your estimated score unreliable. However, we wanted to give you an idea of how you compared to the rest and how your performance in the last two weeks compares with the performance of the users in the last year or so.
Good luck!
