Hello Hjort, thanks a lot for your reply the previous time on Elite schools.
I have another question. Thanks a lot in advance for your time once again!
In writing our application essays, how straight or flexible must we be?
For example, my former assistant had followed me to a few countries to do some consulting projects, which I was leading in the past.
Since, he is leaving to another company soon, we spoke about resumes and essays (he is my former classmate, we are close friends, No supervisor/sorbordinate kinda feelings...)
I realised that he exaggerated quite a lot of stuff in his resume/CV. Instead of co-working with the team on the projects, he mentioned that he leads the projects. And many other similar sort of "harmless" (in his words) exaggerations.
He told me that many people are doing these things and I should be more flexible to put things in a more positive light.
Of course, I am not speaking about resumes writing. My concern is about the application essays. Am I too inflexible?

As a candidate for the best business schools in the world you are expected to present yourself in the best possible light. It is important to remember that candidates from some cultures do have trouble with CV/resumes because they have been taught not to "brag" about themselves. In this context, it is paramount that these candidates overcome this reluctance and demonstrate all of their achievements. However, it is imperative that one avoid false or misleading statements. I think many observers would agree that there is a big difference between leading a project and being a regular team member (consider the level of trust placed in the leader, the client contact, ownership of project failure etc.). To me this statement goes beyond a mild exaggeration- it is an outright lie.
