Hi folks,
I am in the stage of shortlisting European B-Schools in order to apply to some EMBA programs and wanted to ask you about the opinion on some of the programs.
My profile: 35. y.o., Coming from Eastern Europe,Living in Switzerland. 11 years of work experience (Customer service in International corporations) post my Master graduation (Engineering) in Eastern Europe (2yrs), Germany (6yrs), and Switzerland (3 yrs and counting). Switzerland is where I plan to stay and continue my career (Current stage - Manager w/o direct reports, however with indirect reports.). My EMBA objective is to transition to Strategy & Innovation (or General management).
I am wondering now if an International EMBA in St.Gallen (HSG) would help me more than the other ones, such as INSEAD, LBS, HEC, or even ESADE, SDA Bocconi, or EPFL in Lausanne? I know that the main players (INSEAD, LBS, Booth) are top-notch, but I don`t know about the network in Switzerland + the costs in LBS, Booth, or INSEAD are significantly higher then the rest. I also think that for INSEAD and HEC French language could help a lot (and I am not a French speaker). IMD is also on my list, but requires significant company support which is not given to me (in terms of projects). Luckily, I got a pre-admit to IESE EMBA Munich ( I am a fan of the Harvard Case Study Methodology) but I`d like to explore all options as this is a long-term investment.
What do you think about the brands and programs?
P.S: Maybe somebody has experience with one of those programs?
P.S2: How would U rank the schools?

An International EMBA at St. Gallen University (HSG) could be a good choice for you based on your profile and goals. HSG has a good reputation in this regard and it is suited to your plans to carry on with your career there. On the global rankings scale, INSEAD,LBS and HEC may have an edge over the former but their tuition fees are much higher than HSG’s thus making it more affordable for many people.
The EMBA from HSG is also taught in English, which is convenient since you are not French speaking. Lausanne IMD, however, may be another option worth considering; however it requires company support – maybe this will be an obstacle for you. Alternatively IESE’s Munich EMBA seems appropriate where one may consider case study methodology even if it does not offer similar local connections as opposed to HSG.
Overall, HSG has a good combination of local orientation, educational quality, and fairly low costs. In the future, it might be possible to obtain company sponsorship, in which case IMD holds a great deal of attractiveness; the emphasis on leadership and ethics makes IESE noteworthy. As for the ranking, once again the consensus is that INSEAD, LBS, and HEC are ranked closely behind, while IESE, HSG, ESADE, and SDA Bocconi are ranked closely behind. Finally, the best choice will depend on your personal preferences regarding location, cost, and program focus.
