I can tell what I am doing. I am applying to 20 universities, being 6 top 10, 6 between 11-20, 6 between 21-40, and 2 below that. So, most of them ranked 30th or better, but a few below it too.

Hi businessphd, I am also from turkey and with a low gpa (2.9) but a good gmat (750), and am applying to PhD programs in OB this year. We seem to have a similar profile (better gap in masters and ta/ra experience afterwards). So I am curious what happened to your apps at the end. Did you hopefully get into in of your preferred schools?

Hi Nukhet,

I managed to complete all my US applications and a few in Europe but no feedbacks from any of them yet (no interviews, no rejections). I honestly dont know what to expect as all this process has a lot of uncertainties, so just waiting right now. I am glad to see similar profiles seeking for a PhD degree, I believe that all this work requires some maturity and people with more diverse and longer :) backgrounds are more likely to succeed-- but this is just my call, we will shortly see what admission committees think :).

Congrats for the great GMAT score! Although there is a lot of controversy about these standardized tests, again my personal opinion is that these scores are concrete signals that people with excellent test taking abilities like you (especially non native english speakers) have something special. So glad to see these scores as well.

What about your applications-- Did you also apply deeply? and have you heard anything from any of your schools?

It looks like we went through a similar process. What I see looking around is that a strong GMAT score (and perhaps a good GPA) helps to get your foot in the door, but everything else that follows (strong Statement of Purpose, Letters of Rec. etc.) are what really counts for the admissions committees.

So as I was researching the admissions "gossips" yesterday, I came across a very nice website where everyone who applied to PhD (from Management to Astrophysics) is posting whether or not they received interview requests, acceptance and rejection news, etc. Some schools in management have already started calling for interviews apparently, none in the departments/schools that I applied to, but this means we should hear from the schools around this week or so if we are still in the running. The website is thegradcafe and the page is called 'Recent admission results' (could not put the actual link as gmatclub prohibits me from doing so)

yes, grad cafe is an excellent source to set expectations about timing to hear from schools. Actually I went deeper in their database, and searched my school names as keywords and checked last 4-5 year stats, when they sent interview requests, when they accepted, rejected, etc.

My humble conclusion after my primitive database work is that it is still ok. not to hear until Feb 10th or so. Jan 25th-Feb 20th is the period with the highest frequency of interview requests and acceptances. If there is nothing until mid-Feb, well there are some reasons to start getting worried.

It would be great if you notify me through this thread or just pm me that you start having some meaningful action hopefully interviews, but any results a few acceptances/rejections (regardless of school names). I will do the same so that we may have a general idea at what stage the processes are.

Yes businessphd, I totally agree with you (having done some preliminary research on previous dates myself). Although I must say, there is not too many management posts, and almost none OB posts (compared to all the 'real' science phd posts they have there). So many schools that I apply to don't even have real info on this. I actually made some calls to their phd offices and learned that firm decisions have not been made yet, but this could be a diplomatic lie as well :)

Anyways, let's keep each other informed!
