Even the latest in our technology can detect the presence of water on an exoplanet only if water comprises 10% or more of the total mass of the planet as this technology works by measuring the refraction in light passing through the planet's oceans. We have to wait for at least another decade before we can find a planet which is just as much made of water as the earth is.

Which of the following must be true if the argument above is valid?

A. Much less 10% of the earth's total mass is water.

B. We strongly need to find an exoplanet with just as much water as we have on earth.

C. There are many exoplanets with great amount of water.

D. Water is a prerequisite of life anywhere in the universe.

E. New types of telescope usually appear once in a decade.

Is answer A saying that 90% or less of earth mass could be water. I find it very unspecific.

Option A indicates the opposite of what you have construed. It means that much more than 90% of the earth's total mass is water.

IMO its A since it shows that the amount of water is much less than 10%. Since with the latest technology, only exoplanets with more than 10% water can be identified, hence its very difficult to find an exoplanet that has as much water (much less than 10%) as earth.
