You shouldn't use between if more than two people or entities are involved and these entities are not treated as distinct entities/individuals. It is ok to say there was a three-way between me and Tom and Dan, but it would be incorrect to say "the three-way caused a rift between us." You need to use among when dealing with a collective noun like class/us, where the separate individuals are not treated distinctly. A better guide dealing with between vs. among is:
https://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/be ... among.aspx.

It is incorrect because it changes the meaning of the sentence. You need to use among when dealing with a collective noun like class/us, where the separate individuals are not treated distinctly.

I think the new student is one of the students in that class or school. Thus Among is better than Around...

Correct me if i am wrong....

Even though I have solved this one correctly. I still have doubt on this one.

I think we need among because of US used in the sentence.
