Every month Tim receives a fixed salary of $1,000 and a 10 percent commission on the total sales exceeding $10,000 in that month. What was the total amount of Tim’s sales last month?

(1) Last month Tim’s fixed salary and commission was $1, 500.
(2) Last month Tim’s commission was $500.

Let the total sales exceeding $10,000 per month be T.

Fixed salary = $1000

Commission = 10%*( T-10000)

We need to find T .

Statement 1:

(1) Last month Tim’s fixed salary and commission was $1, 500.

$1000 + 10%*( T-10000) = $1500

10%*( T-10000) = 500

T -10000 = 5000

T = 15000. Hence, Sufficient

Statement 2:

(2) Last month Tim’s commission was $500.

10%*( T-10000) = 500

T -10000 = 5000

T = 15000. Hence, Sufficient
