A. Every year, deciduous fruits such as the apricot, apple, and peach reach ripeness only once annually

B. Deciduous fruits such as the apricot, apple, and peach reaches ripeness only once annually

C. Every year, the apricot, apple, and peach, being deciduous fruit, reaches ripeness only once

D. Annually, deciduous fruits such as the apricot, apple, and peach reach ripeness only once every year

E. Every year, deciduous fruits such as the apricot, apple, and peach reach ripeness once only

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Every year, deciduous fruits such as the apricot, apple, and peach reach ripeness only once annually.

A. Every year, deciduous fruits such as the apricot, apple, and peach reach ripeness only once annually

This answer choice is stylistically flawed. Using both annual and year is redundant.

What helps us identify this question as a Redundancy question as well as identify this mistake is the following Stop Sign:

annual + year

B. Deciduous fruits such as the apricot, apple, and peach reaches ripeness only once annually

Although this answer choice corrects the original Redundancy by not including both every year and annually together in a sentence, it is still grammatically incorrect.

A subject that is made of two or more singular nouns connected by and is plural and should be followed by a plural verb. This does not apply to other connectors (as well as, along with, etc.).

In this answer choice, a singular verb is used (reaches).

What helps us identify this question as a Subject Verb Agreement question as well as identify the mistake is the following Stop Sign: A plural subject made up of singular nouns that are connected by and

E. Every year, deciduous fruits such as the apricot, apple, and peach reach ripeness once only

The original sentence uses both annual and year which is redundant.

Hey Bunuel!

I have a doubt about option E. Can the limiting adverb "only" be placed at the end of the sentence without any object after it, as in option E?
