A- estimated "at" needs noun right after it.
B- "being" gives the expression as if object has active control over its size. Distorts the meaning
C- "that" distorts the meaning.
Estimate itself is no more than half a mile in diameter
D- ing-modifier modifying the evidence
E - correct

I think between D and E, the reason why E is correct and D is wrong is that D doesn't contain a present perfect tense. Otherwise, it makes perfect sense to include D in the possible contendents of the right answer.
A case could be made out to argue why D could be the right answer by saying that
,+ing modifier is modifying the verb ''spotted'' explaining the action of spotting the evidence. how the evidence was spotted? while orbiting the Saturn ''since'' 2005. here is a problem, ''since'' tells me that we are talking about the time duration, an action that began in the past and still continues such a construction requires perfect tense.
