A) the human mind is not "blank state", but instead that it comprises specialized mental mechanisms that were developed as a way of solving I think we need "a" or "the" before blank state. Moreover correct idiom is not X but Y. I never heard of not X but instead Y (But I may be wron )
B) the human mind is not "blank state" but instead comprises specialized mental mechanisms that were developed TO SOLVE Same as A.
C) the human mind , INSTEAD OF A "blank state", it comprises specialized mental mechanisms that HAVE BEEN TO SOLVE "the human mind" and "it" two subject for same line not possible.
D) RATHER THAN IT BEING A "blank state", THE HUMAN MIND comprises specialized mental mechanisms that HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED as a way of solving Seems OK.
E ) RATHER THAN THE HUMAN MIND'S BEING A "blank state", THAT IS comprises specialized mental mechanisms that WERE DEVELOPED as a way of solving Awkward construction.
The correct answer is B as per gmat prep; But I got it wrong as " but instead" seemed redundant to me and selected D. can any body provide explanation in favour of B ?
