Hello experts,
I am looking to get answer to something which is very common among exam takers, particularly the ones who score like me.
I gave my GMAT exam yesterday and finished with 710 (Q49, V38, I8). However, this is low compared to my expectations based on the mock tests where I scored 770-780, and hence was expecting 750+ in the final exam. There are two things which went wrong for me:
First, one question in quant took 12-13 minutes of my time, which left me no time for the remaining questions. Further, this thought that my quant has been ruined haunted me during verbal also. I believe it could have easily resulted in 20-30 points shortage.
Second, as with the mocks, I took I, Q, V in that order. However, I think it should have been Q, V, I because of the timing of the exam. I really felt energized during the first two sections, while towards the end of verbal, I was hoping to get out real soon.
I am Indian engineer male (age 25, WE 4 years, fintech Product manager), and my target colleges are top 10 including Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, Kellogg, INSEAD. The suggestion I need from you people is whether or not I should retake GMAT exam, and what difference will the additional 20-30 marks (if I get those) fetch in the entire process.
Further, if you suggest me retaking the exam, should I retake it within a month because I am already well prepared, or should I wait for sometime till this depressing thought of the bad experience goes away and I am ready to give it with a fresh mind. (If I'm not retaking, I can apply for R1 also. If retaking, maybe R2 or even next year can be thought of)
Few factors which are coming to my mind are:
Pros of retaking:
1. Better chances because of better score
2. Peace of mind (not there currently)
Cons:
1. Does it matter so much or I better start with applications?
2. Another month of the same detached life
3. Another $250 spent
4. Can work on my venture in this one month to scale it up (its a community of movie lovers)
Open to get suggestions and discuss. Thanks a lot in advance.
