Hope that everyone is in good spirits.I am from India. I have overall 5.4 years of work experience in the IT industry. However, due to COVID crisis I have lost my job around 7 months back and I am facing a hard time to get any opportunity during this difficult time. I would like to pursue executive MBA offered by one of the IIMs or other reputed institutions(SPJain, Great Lakes) for improving my skill sets and for the betterment of my professional life.
However, I have few questions regarding this decision of mine.
1. Do IIMs or other institutions consider experience gap as a huge disadvantage for executive MBA programs? 2. If the experience gap is considered as a huge disadvantage in Indian institutions what are the other options should I consider, in my current situation?

You should be able to fill your experience gap with a good story. Honesty is the key here. Everyone is losing jobs in these uncertain times and colleges also know this.
I would suggest you to go ahead and apply to all IIMs and your choice of other institutes, this year. The earlier, the better. If you wait more, your experience gap is only going to widen. I am assuming that you have not applied in round 1 of IIMs. Just apply now and come up with a good story to present your experience gap in a way that does not downside you. You may also use it positively. Regards and all the best!
Experience gap should not be a problem. Focus on getting a good score in GMAT and then on building a stellar application with impressive essays. There are a number of ways to highlight your application, focus on how you used your time and learnt from it. Regards, Tridisha

Hi , First of all, i assume that by "Executive" you mean one-year full-time MBA. Please note that there is a difference in the terms. IIMs do take gap as a disadvantage but if you can come up with a strong profile, you can justify that. If you get shortlisted for the interview, you will definitely get questions around why did you lose your job and stuff like that. You should be targeting a GMAT score of 720 at least. All the best.
Thank you so much Tridisha. It's truly inspiring for me, I have also done some certification courses offered by few of the world known universities to get better exposure of opportunities, however, that did not work for me.
