I wonder if they donated the money on the terms that they'll get their name on the school.

I'm sure that's the deal. That rubs a lot of people the wrong way. That's why a dozen of University of Wisconsin alumni donated $85 million in 2007 in exchange for assurances that the business school would not be named for any donor for at least 20 years.

The wisconsin alums did it because naming rights are very valuable and they think that its going to be worth a great deal more in 20+ years. Just look at how much a few of those schools got for naming rights, they would easily get a ton more today than they did just 10 years ago.

That might be the reason but I still believe that very few people want their b-school take on some else's name for the sake of extra $$$.

I guess Ross is one of the last schools to adopt a different name? It was the UMSB or UMBS till a couple of years back.

The University of Washington just named their business school. They got about 50 million for it, and they badly need the money. The facilities, for a major b-school, are severely lacking.

yeah, I didn't know Ross was named so recently!

I want to see the day when HBS, Stanford, Chicago, or Columbia get named... That article on BW saying that some schools might not be able to resist a $5 billion check from Bill Gates... :wink:
