The following post was by Praetorian. I felt it was a great post. He posted it on July 12, 2006. Please check whether it will be useful to you...

Here are some common strategic errors you can make:

1. I am strong in Quant. Lets focus on Verbal. vice-versa

2. Work two weeks straight on SC, then the next two weeks straight on
CR...so on so forth.

3. I consistently get 75% correct on CR/SC/RC.

4. I must only focus on the difficult problems.

5. Three months is good enough for preparation.

6. I got that question right. I dont care if I guessed. I dont need to
review the explanation or take a second look at it.

7. I know my weaknesses. I dont see any reason to measure my
progress.

Both the G's seem to be my weak point, the GMAT and the GPA (3.2). I could probably improve my the average of G's by improving my GMAT score. I was almost sure of breaking the 700 barrier this time, at least the GMATPrep indicated so - I completely screwed again ... Trying to recollect myself to get ready for another try (probably the last one .... oh I am sooo unhappy) ... Was hoping to get hold of MGAT from somewhere, no store nearby seems to have a copy :-( (Calcutta, India).

Rest of my profile : 5 + years in I.T. ERP consultancy. 4 years as a contractor to GE with 2 years in US. Recently moved to sales from delivery. Current responsibilities include business development, pre sales activities, travelling to different countries (short term) for presentations, and showcasing company capability for an ERP solution.

My concerns :

1. I need to get my GMAT score a 700 + before 31 Oct, or at least two weeks before that (as some of the deadlines are 31 st Oct).

2. I don't know how would these scores look in my profile as a whole and how would someone interpret them.

3. I understand this would be my last chance probably - (I have pushed aside a job offer from GE stating my MBA plans, however recieved good recco from my Manager at GE last year). So the tension is building up.

4. I might have to travel to US by the first week of Oct for taking over my next assignment in Sales (this is tentative and may get delayed by 2-3 months, but any cance of this happening makes the uncertainity even more).

Since, I am already waiting for my next assignment as a Business Development manager (ERP), it would not be wise for me to get in to a 50th rank school, study 2 years, and spend 100K. I am looking for any school from 5-15 in rank. Consultant is what I want to become.

Thanks for all the help I recieved .... I guess I opened up a bit to let know my profile as I expect some advice from you folks - as I always get.
