In HBS application, there is a question about additional information about family background. What exactly am I supposed to answer here?

It's open-ended, but really geared for unique or extenuating circumstances. Perhaps someone unexpectedly passed away, someone started a business (for which you worked), you had to take care of a family member, etc.
If you don't have anything to include, don't fill this in. It's just an opportunity for those with said stories to share them.
It's also not to be another admissions essays too. Just the facts.

Hey Amysh,
You can use this prompt to talk of significant life examples that will illustrate important personal milestones and insights, such as family situations, challenges, or instances where you were challenged and how you evolved. Remember to also focus on the insights you gained from each of those experiences and how those have shaped your personality and outlook on life.
This is where you get to be honest about everything. While as an applicant you are expected to take advantage of this, you should convey thoughts, feelings, hopes, and aspirations succinctly.
