OG questions are retired ones means questions from past 5-10 years old but still most relevant to the real GMAT exam than any other coaching course questions. Of course, the most, ~ >80%, official quant questions are having easy to moderate level of difficulty. So, definitively most of the students found OG quant questions, esp. PS, are easy as compared to official verbal questions. Most of the coaching course are designed to have more difficult type of questions.

It'd be better to continue with Magoosh and try to learn the concepts and apply concepts and quickest approach to the official questions. Such practice can help you.

Hi FabC,

Out of curiosity have you taken any official practice exams? If so, how did you score?

Hi FabC,

Measuring your overall Test-taking skills by working through individual questions or small quizzes can be problematic. There are a variety of factors that can impact your performance, including how 'fresh' the source material is in your mind, how long you've practiced that material, the time of day you study, the source of the practice materials, the implied difficulty level of the material, etc.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) Have you taken any CATs/mocks yet? On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
3) What is your overall goal score?
4) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi FabC,

Any update on how your quant prep turned out?

I’m running into the same issue with Magoosh quant vs. OG and feeling sooo discouraged right now. I really am not sure why I can’t seem to connect the dots to solve the Magoosh problems correctly like I can with the OGs. Any advice appreciated!

When you solve OG questions, make sure to solve them using the right methods. Because, there could be many ways to solve a question - for example, you can even solve a few quant questions by solving using options. But you can't rely on that all the time. So, go through the solution of every question you solve. If the approach matches, then well and good. If it doesn't, learn the right approach and make sure to solve those question types using the right approach.

It is quant so the third party questions don’t come into play really.... but OG and a not known to have hard quant questions either really....

Hi studybuddy,

I would suggest you to identify the reason behind not able to solve the questions. There could be many reasons such as:
  • Struggling with the concepts
  • Struggling with the methodology
  • Time-management issues

So, narrow down the root cause and work towards it. But, I guess you must be pretty clear with the concepts by now. The only reason you could be struggling is because you are not clear with the application part. So, I would suggest you to focus on learning the right methodology and then practice questions. That would be the right way to go about it.

I can give you a more specific advice if you can give me a little background about your GMAT Preparation and the way you solve questions. This information will help me understand your concerns and guide you in a better way. You can use the below link to get in touch with me.
