At Kellogg the financial aid application takes place after admittance (except for some awards that are given out by the admissions committee, which you are automatically considered for). I can't say for certain how other schools handle it, but I can't imagine from an administrative standpoint that any school would want to spend the time processing financial aid paperwork for students who aren't admitted. So if I had to guess I would expect the timing is similar at other schools.

In terms of need-based vs. merit-based aid, I think it varies by school but from what I remember from my research as an applicant I think most have some sort of need-based aid - whether its loans, grants or scholarships.

Thanks, Jerz. I'll concentrate all my finger-crossing and nail-biting for admission first, and worry about some financial aid action later, then.

I am not sure if this is the right forum.
I am an Intl Student from India planning to attend Fall 2010. I have an admit from Kellogg and am looking for ways to finance my MBA. Anybody on the forum know how to go about it. Kellogg has two loan options for Intls.
Op A - With US Co-signer - 7.5%
Op B - With Intl Co-signer - 8%

Does anybody else know of any other options for kellogg.

At Ross, financial aid also takes place after admittance. I'm also a lucky one to receive a Merit Scholarship, which everyone's considered for based on their application. I can't tell you stats though on % of students who get these and the average dollar amount. And I'm also not sure what they evaluate when they give these out. You could probably call up admissions for each school you're most interested in and ask about it.

I do know folks who have gotten scholarships from certain schools and then negotiated for (more) money at their top choice schools - after they've gotten in of course - and it does work to some extent since schools do want to maintain high yields.
