A sequence is just a list of numbers in order. This is a sequence:

√2, 108, -0.111, 12, 3000001, 4/3, 21, -99, 4/249, π + 12, ...

Sequences don't need to have any particular pattern or structure. If you only know the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 9th terms of a sequence, and have no information about the structure of the sequence (no rule that lets us generate terms, for example) then the 8th term could be any number at all. So the answer is E.
