Here is the explanation Swath

The series is actually like this:

1^2,1^1,1^0;2^2,2^1,2^0,3^2,3^1,3^0,4^2....

Hence 5 is the odd man out.

dun t worry guys this kind of silly question will fortunately not pop up in GMAT quiz. Too squeezy and not GMAT at all.
