Hey!
maximedistinctio Sorry about this situation. But there are ways around it.
The good part is that it is the 6 months before school so you can sort of sweep it under the rug on your resume and linked in when you recruit and that's what the AdCom cares about the most.
It is not great that you got let go as it puts you in a very tricky situation - you can get a job for 6-8 months but then have to leave it again to go school and that will sort of annoy your future employer if you don't disclose this. At the same time, it will probably prevent you from being hired if you telegraph that you are going to leave soon but this also gives you an opportunity to present lack of a job as exactly that - I am going to do an MBA and it makes no sense to recruit for a 6-month stint....
So no, it is not going to crush your dreams. Lots of people quit or get laid off - it is about how you use your time during this break and if you can make the most out of it. If you are applying in R2 (next week which it sounds like you are), would recommend that you put 2 lines into an optional essay that you have been furloughed due to company reconsidering the staffing model in light of the AI and that you are hoping to be either recruited for another role in your organization or take one of the other opportunities with the plan to have the start date after the decision release date in order to give my employer notice should I be admitted and pursue an MBA as my plan. (something along these lines).
If you have been furloughed for a while, not sure that it will show up anywhere in the background check (I sort of doubt it), make sure that you have something to show for the time and how you have been able to use it - e.g. took courses, volunteered, etc, etc.
