Even if it were East Timor, I imagine it would still be difficult to prove since there could potentially be East Timorese students that were counted in the Indonesian statistics prior to independence in the 2000s.

:) interesting topic

I just wanted to let you guys know that it is possible to be the first student from your country to a certain school.

I also come from a small country (in Europe), last year when I applied to Tuck I asked the adcom if they had anyone from my country before (I asked if they had any alumni from my country) and they said no !! ... so if there were no alumni from my country that meant that nobody from my country has graduated from there, right?

But anyways ... it didn't help me much as I didn't get in Tuck :). I got the interview invite but I really blew the interview (was even 15 min late).

Also, my suggestion to the original poster is to ask the adcom if they have any alumni from his/her country and you will find out if you are going to be the first student. And if they actually have an alum from your country they can help you get in touch with that person, which is always a plus.

Cheers!

I actually don't care about the country and will actually provide my opinion on the question. I think being the first ( or one of few) to apply to a program is a positive. I would not call it out specifically unless it ties into a larger more meaningful essay answer, but it seems people from under represented groups always have an advantage.

Edit: I just noticed the dates on the earlier posts. Oops.

Ooops. I thought Asia. But if you were from North Korea, you could have been right.
