Hi everybody, today I wrote my first AWA essay, and I would like to receive some opinions about it
This is the text of the question:
"Applications for advertising spots on KMTV, our local cable television channel, decreased last year. Meanwhile a neighboring town's local channel, KOOP, changed its focus to farming issues and reported an increase in advertising applications for the year. To increase applications for its advertisement spots, KMTV should focus its programming on farming issues as well."Under spoilers you will find my essay
The objective of this article is to convince readers that KMTV, a local cable television channel, should focus its programming on farming issues to increase the applications for its advertisement sports. However, the argument proposed by the author is not totally convincing because it presents different fallacies. First of all, in this extract the author fails to identify the real causes of the decrease of the advertising spots on KMTV. Indeed, thorough the passage it is not specified anywhere which factors caused this reduction. The author seems to imply that this problem was principally due to the lack of farming related tv shows, but he/she does not provide any data to sustain this hypothesis. In addition, the article lacks any specific and quantifiable information regarding the reduction of the advertising applications on KMTV and the increase of these applications on KOOP, making it difficult to grasp the real size of this problem.
The author also makes the error of constructing and presenting his point by making assumptions not supported by the data presented. For example, the extract seems to identify as similar the tastes of the viewers of the two local television channels. However, the article lacks of any proof able to support this claim. In fact, it is not necessarily true that the viewers of KMTV like the same topics that the viewers of KOOP prefer. Nonetheless, this claim is even discredited by the fact that these two tv channels do not belong to the same town, but to two different, although geographically near, areas. By implying a relationship of cause and effect with the farming focused programming and the amount of advertising applications, the author also makes the error of arriving to a conclusion without providing enough data to support his/her point of view. Indeed, there could be many other factors, such as macroeconomic fluctuations, that could have increased the likelihood of advertising buying.
As a consequence, this article does not seem to provide enough data to sustain the suggestions presented.
Thank you in advance
