Hi,
This is my first thread here so here it goes:
I have been studying on and off for almost a year but only started studying seriously at the end of September.
I started with Kaplan's math workbook and verbal workbook (did not finish the verbal) but that was over such a long period that
I forgot some of the concepts. I bought the 2015 OG books (OG and Math and Verbal books) and started doing problems.
I was also doing GMATprep questions (finished all of them plus the extra content). I did GMATprep exams (plus the additional ones)
and that's when I felt that I needed more help. I purchased
MGMAT series plus the advanced quant book.
I studies all 5 math books (skipped the extra chapters) as well as the SC book. For CR, I read the first two chapters of powerscore's CR bible
and got bored that I decided to study from Kaplan's and from GMAT club's guide (which was very helpful). I knew that I would not get my
target score from my first attempt but I had to see where I stand and experience the GMAT once before my second attempt in December.
I would like some feedback for further improvement as my plan is to read all those extra math chapters I didn't study and also finish the advanced
quant book. For verbal, I might take an online course (not sure about powerscore, it was lengthy).
Test scores:
GMATPrep exam 1 (with no prep) 400 (Q21, V23, IR 5) November 12 2013
GMATPrep exam 2 580 (Q37, V33, IR 4) Sept 5 2014
GMATPrep Exam 3 510 (Q 32, V28, IR 4) Sept 12 2014
GMATPrep exam 4 510 (Q35, V26, IR 8) Oct 18 2014
MGMAT 1 530 (Q37, V27) Oct 23
MGMAT 2 590 (Q41, V31) Oct 30
MGMAT 3 590 (Q40, V32) Nov 3
MGMAT 4 590 (Q39, V32) Nov 17
MGMAT 5 580 (Q42, V28) Nov 18
MGMAT 6 650 (Q46, V33) Nov 22
GMATPrep 1 670 (Q46, V36, IR 3) Nov 21
GMATPrep 3 660 (Q47, V34, IR 5) Nov 25
I did not consider the last two attempts as there were one or two repeated questions but the quant section was
relatively more difficult than the verbal! (yes, verbal was easier than quant even though I did rush the last few verbal questions)
Background information:
Education: received my M.D. degree in Nov 2012
Employment: work for the government as a physician
Length of study:
I did study at least 4 hours during weekdays but less during weekends!
I started with the
MGMAT books early October and have been studying
consistently with a day here or there with no studying (weekends with kids and family)
General strategy:
I started covering the basics in math along with doing OG questions and taking mock exams.
I did created an
error log where I would write the topics covered by the question or the reason why
I made the error (did not read the question stem properly, did not copy correct numbers...etc)
I also made notes of the important basic concepts that need to be remembered.
I did purchase the GMAT club exams however I did not have the time to do them, I only did few quant questions.
I am applying to top 10 schools so I know that I have to score higher, for that, I need to focus on my weaknesses
and hopefully get the result I'm after.
I would like to hear some feedback and any suggestions on what to do next. Round 2 deadlines start Jan 6th!
