Hi MBAcuriosity16,
First off, a 730 is a fantastic GMAT score! Nice work. Despite a 47 on the quant, you still have a great overall score that falls near the average GMAT scores of most top programs. With that said, I have seen a reasonable number of otherwise qualified candidates with high GMAT scores, but unusually low quant scores, rejected from M7 schools. Is there a cause and effect at work between the rejection and the lower-than-expected quant scores? Hard to say… One thing is pretty certain though: most of the schools to which you’re applying are unapologetically quant-driven, and getting your quant score up will probably make you a stronger candidate.
Here’s an
interesting article that I wrote for Poets and Quants. You may find value in reading it.
If you think you should have been able to achieve a higher quant score on your GMAT, there is no harm in taking another GMAT. If you are unable to improve your quant score, you always have the option to cancel your score and use your current GMAT score of 730.
I am happy to provide some further advice, but I would like to learn some more about your GMAT experience. I have a few important questions.
1) Can you provide the dates and score breakdowns of your official MBA.com exams? When you took the practice tests, did you take them under realistic conditions (e.g. in a quiet environment, no extended breaks)?
2) What is your study routine? For how many months did you study for your GMAT and for how many hours a day? What resources did you use for your prep?
Once you provide that information, I’d be happy to give you some further advice.
