Hi, I had gmat test on center today, but I was not allowed to take it, as passport first name 'nirupaben' did not match with registration first name 'nirupa' of exam. Here postfix 'ben' means sister in gujarati culture, somewhat like english prefix or postfix miss, jr, or I, II etc

However, I had earlier appeared for gmat online, used passport as proof, and me and Proctor discussed the name difference, and she allowed me take exam.

Seriously concerned if will allow to reschedule or is the money gone, already financial crunch and this happened.

Do anyone know such case? And is the reschedule possible?

Sorry to hear that, but yes name difference can create a lot of issues. What you can do is try mailing GMAC and discuss the same with them. Only the source could provide reliable information. Hope it gets sorted soon.

Hi NirupaD,

This is unfortunate, but you should assume that they won't entertain requests for a refund or a free reschedule.

Sorry about this incident. I don’t think you’ll get a refund because you technically took up a spot that someone else could’ve purchased. Kind of like a hotel room. If you don’t show up, they can’t sell it to someone else and still charge you for it. Sorry.

PS. The only situation I can see getting a refund is if you can prove that this was a frivolous end erroneous event. However, your name did not match the passport so…

Question for you, are you going to put a different name on your application, as well? if you’re applying for an international program then you’re only asking for trouble . Your I-20 will have a name that is different from your passport and are you planning to explain in the embassy? Your plane tickets name will not match and the list just keeps on going. You need to figure out what your name is and use one name. Otherwise you just asking for trouble and have to explain every time why your name does not match. 😬

bb, i agree with you on this. Name discrepancy does create problems in admission and visa. Early trouble is always better than stuck in such situation at later stage.
