Hi all,
Joined the forum today after reading for a couple of days. I've been studying over the last couple of weeks, and have been able to spend more time over the holidays.
Target Score: 720+
Target Schools: INSEAD, Cambridge (Judge), Darmouth (Tuck), Northwestern (Kellogg), all in R1 next year
I started with the OG books, but very quickly realized they were not very helpful to learn the basics. I used the Economist GMAT Tutor free trial over the past 7 days. The trial was OK, the software really helps you focusing on the lesson and I like being able to time the sessions in advance. After going through 20% of the curriculum (you can't do more during the trial), I took the free test this morning.
I scored 620 (Q42 V34); which is not as great as expected for a first try - I'm not even sure if this is very representative. I was surprised my Quant score was higher than my Verbal. However, I finished the verbal section with almost 30mn to go... never a good sign! The breakdown is as follows:
Problem solving 12/21 (I had not reviewed all the materials yet so some questions were though. However, the biggest problem was time management, I had no idea how I was doing until I had 10 questions to solve in less than 10 minutes)
Data Sufficiency 10/16 (hadn't started working on this this part yet, so i guess 10/16 is not too bad..)
Sentence Correction 12/21 (Ouch.. I thought this would be one of my strenghts)
Critical Reasoning 12/12 (Wooo! finally some good news!)
Reading Comprehension (Meh... should do better)
I'm planning on taking the test end of March, so I have about 12 good weeks to improve. Questions:
* What materials should I use? I'm thinking about continuing with the Economist and purchasing some additional tests from Manhattan and MBA.com
* When should I take the next test and when should I use the official tests (my understanding is that they are the most accurate, so maybe with 1 or 2 weeks to go?)
* Any tips for SC? I feel significantly improving this section could be an easy win
Finally; I would like to thank everybody in the community, there are some great ressources and lively conversations that are extremelly useful!
Thanks!
