Hi Bhavesh,

Studying for the GMAT now - far in advance of when you will actually "need" your Score - is a smart choice. You ask a number of broader questions - and there are a number of different ways in which you can research what you're looking for.

To start, the process of applying to (and ultimately attending) Business School will require a big investment of time, money and energy on your part, so you really should make sure that the Programs that you apply to match your career goals/needs. There are a variety of factors that go into selecting the Schools that you'll apply to. As such, here are some other things to think about:

1) Is there a particular company that you want to work for or industry that you want to work in? Certain degrees are more appropriate than others if you have a specific career goal.
2) What do you want your MBA to do for you?
3) Do you want to go to School full-time or part-time?
4) Are you willing to relocate? Are you comfortable with working through a program that is primarily online?
5) Are you going to be applying for scholarships?
Etc.

Once you have a list of Schools/Programs that interests you, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions (including the type of GMAT Score that you might "need") and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can access 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have that Score, you should report back here and we can discuss the results and come up with a study plan.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Regarding prep courses, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

You also may find it helpful to read this article about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT.

Good luck!

Hello to all.
Greetings !!
Good Day ...

I am Bhavesh and I am 33 years of age and a a business owner.
I graduated in 2009 and got a bachelor of commerce degree in majoring Finance from University of Wollongong in Australia.

I am planning to give the GMAT next year and want to start preparation for it ASAP.
I reside in India and want to ACE the GMAT hopefully in the first attempt next year in 2022.

Could you please guide me what material I could use to prepare and get the dream score which I want.
I graduated 11 years back and hence I am out of touch of study by a long gap.
Hence, was wondering if you can guide me on the best coaching perhaps I can take and get the best score and ACE The GMAT on the very first attempt.
I am Willing to give my 100% in every way.

Just need a good direction and good source from someone perhaps who has experience of studying from a good coaching individual or perhaps study material or a coaching class and ACE'D The GMAT (Preferably from India).
I guess coz of corona mostly it is online now, so have to deal with it, not a problem, no option i guess.

Also, someone who can guide with where to study after a good GMAT score and gives good advice and help in shortlisting good universities too and all the other requirements like LOR's , SOP's , Resume building. Suggestion for migration too and where to study and choosing of a country to study based on future job prospects all of course based on my GMAT score. (these all will be an added advantage if they can offer)

Please need advise urgently, want to start the preparations for The GMAT, ASAP !! It should be well budgeted too, nothing too ballooned as I went through some like Top One percent course and fees for live session and self paced study course (It has good reviews but very expensive for a live session course for 8 weeks) (around 35k rupees)
Is it worth it to spend that much on coaching and then appear for the exam ? or not needed ? Please advice from your experience

Hi bhaveshmasand,

You can go through this article to understand the right way to prepare for GMAT.

As GMAT is an adaptive test, I suggest you to go with an online course as it helps you take adaptive quizzes and provides you all the content on a single platform. While looking for a course there's the obvious factors that one looks for - cost, content and teachers. But I'd recommend that you look for some other factors as well.

1. Look for a course that not only teaches you concepts but also teaches you the application of these concepts. GMAT is a test of application skills and as such this is a crucial factor. A course that teaches you a structured way of solving questions is very important if you want to score 700+.

2. It should provide you with a clear and structured study plan. Your focus should be only on learning and not struggling with what and how to study. Look for a course that provides you with the guidance for the same.

3. It should give you detailed feedback on your performance and show you exactly where you can improve

The best way to choose an online course is by checking out the free trial of the courses out there and then choose the one which suits you the most.

I would recommend that you check out the free trial of GMATWhiz. It uses an AI powered learning platform that comes with a comprehensive amount of content and an integrated study plan that is completely personalized for you to provide you with real time improvement modules after every practice quiz. Furthermore, the platform provides real time insights on your performance, highlighting your strengths and weaknesses while providing a road map to improvement.

And I can definitely help you with the study strategy. GMAT is a test which focuses on application of concepts. So, you need to make sure that you learn not only the concepts but also their application. Please schedule a call with me using the link below so that I can guide you in a better way.
