LCM of 6,7,8,9,12 = 504
in 1 hr we have 3600 seconds = 3600/504 ~ 7 times

Are You Up For the Challenge: 700 Level Questions


Since the LCM of 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 is:

2^3 x 3^2 x 7 = 504, the balls will toll together every 504 seconds. Since there are 3600 seconds in an hour, the number of times they will roll together in an hour is 3600/504 = 7 plus remainder, so the answer is 7.

Answer: C

Maybe we have to mention somewhere that the very first toll (when the bells begin to toll) is not considered
