Hi dcoolguy,
1. I try to steer my students away from the so-called "meaning-based approach". This is not to say that meaning isn't important. All I mean is that meaning is just one of the things the GMAT tests.
2. Also, many test takers seem to think that it's important to commit to always using meaning as the initial entry point, in every single question. That's not something I'd do (it's better to choose our entry points on a question-by-question basis).
But coming back to your point, I don't think that option A always carries the intended meaning.

The meaning is that the long term interactions affect global climate. But couldn't it be atmosphere as well? (I mean, I am no expert but atmosphere does affect climate). Under test pressure, how can we be sure whether A or C is correct? A repeats interactions, but C could be correct as well.
