I know for sure that I want to purse a MBA degree but I’m having trouble deciding whether I want to specialize in entrepreneurship or finance. I know the first obvious question for me is, What you I want to do after you graduate? Ultimately I’d like to become an entrepreneur and start my own business, however I’m not so sure how feasible that is coming straight out of the gate. I also have a love for finance and have been following the markets ever since I was old enough to open up my own brokerage account. My plan is to start out in a management position and move on to my own ventures after I feel I’ve built up enough experience and capitol.
My credentials are as follows, B.S. in mechanical and aerospace engineering with a 3.92 GPA from Rutgers University, 620 on the GMAT (very unsatisfied with my score and plan on taking it over at least once), and I’m currently working in a 3 year leadership development rotational program with a Fortune 500 company. I’ve also started my own company but I’m not sure if it’s worth mentioning on an application because it was a complete failure and I shut it down after 10 months. With that being said, assuming I improve my GMAT score to around the 680-700 range, I think I have a pretty good shot of getting into a top 20 school.
For someone who eventually wants to be an entrepreneur but plans on starting out in a management or possible financial position which MBA specialization would you recommend? Also, what do you think my chances are for getting into a top 20 school?
FYI my current plans are to start school two years from now.
Cheers,
James
