sorry to hear about that james... did they provide a reason?

Anyway, I think if you really work on your apps for next year, you can apply to much better schools than Katz, just to show them up! :)

I e-mailed the admissions director, and if I don't get an adequate answer, I will ask to have an appointment with the dean.
I do not think that this was fair by any means. This does not make any sense to me whatsoever. I don't know how I can go from being in the top 1/3 of the class (only the top 1/3 receive scholarships) to not getting in at all..all within a single year. I know applications are up, but this is ridiculous..

You arent going to get an answer that will satisfy you. They probably felt burned by you last year. I though I remember you saying you showed up to school for a few days and then left. If you did that can easily explain why you got dinged.

not to sound harsh but does adcom owe anyone an explanation?

as long as they are not being discriminatory (race, religion, gender, etc.), admissions is a pretty subjective process and they have the right to admit or ding anyone don't they?

as far as this situation, my guess is that you probably won't get a satisfactory answer. are you sure you didn't end up rubbing one of the people in adcom the wrong way? for example, most schools will ding you if there is a complaint against you (e.g. were rude to a receptionist, student, heck...even the janitor, etc.). realistically they'll probably tell you that applications have gone up overall and to make the class as diverse as possible, your background was overrepresented, etc. i've never heard of a school giving an admit after a ding before so your only other real options are to try to apply to another school or wait another year (but try to gauge what your chances will be like next year).

anyway, just my 2 cents. i really wish you good luck in moving forward.

RVD.

Nope, I never showed up to the school and advised them in advance that I didn't think I was going to be able to come.
When I told the adcom my reasons for withdrawing or wanting to defer, she was fine with it. She also said my admission would be deferred because of my personal situation. Then this happens. I am going to raise hell and be as much of a pain in the butt as possible with these people. I want some answers. I have nothing to do lose at this time. I think I was wronged.

I think they would in my case, where I was admitted with a scholarship and then could not come since I had a medical condition.
I would hope these ADCOM's have some sense of civility and compassion with regards to personal situations. It's not as if I didn't attend because I felt like it. Mentally/physically I was not well enough to attend. Would they have wanted me to come in there and struggle and possibly end up dropping out because I wasn't myself?

That is up to debate in my issue. I was told my admission could be deferred...which basically means I had a spot in the class. The only thing they could not do is guarantee my scholarship which I was fine with. Then all of a sudden it changed to a total reapplication. I am trying to track down the e-mails that were sent to me.

No, I am never rude to anyone. And Realistically, they can't tell me with a straight face that my stats are not good enough for the school. My GPA and GMAT (3.8 and 690) were both in the top 10th percentile last year. I was in the top 1/3 of the class last year..only the top 1/3 receive scholarships. I don't think Katz's stats could have gone up that much to make me a ding in the couse of a year. That just doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I willl make them sweat. I have some time off next week and may stop in to visit them and ask for an explanation if they don't respond via e-mail.
