A friend of mine recently got admitted to NYU. He will be receiving around 20K in scholarships over the two years (altogether, not each year). He is also on the WL for Chicago.
He is an international. Both schools have good reputations in out home country. He wants to work at a VC eventually, though his background is commercial law and entrepreneurship and realistically it may be hard getting a VC job after school.
An advantage living in New York has is that there is a tiny hedge fund we helped start up a few years ago is located there and he could probably be involved in it while studying in New York (maybe unpaid internship and etc). Also, he has several friends who live in New York and knows no one in the Chicago area (except me:)).
We argued about whether or not he should fight it out for Chicago and pick them over NYU if he gets admitted (even if he gets no money). I would appreciate your thoughts!
Thanks,
Gil
