Yes, No, Yes

  • Among the subjects that were underspent, the one with the second-highest planned allocation also had the second-smallest percentage deviation in magnitude.: Literature meets this criteria

  • At least one subject had both actual spending above its planned allocation and actual spending above the overall average actual spending.: Physics was the closest answer but average is coming out as 4800, and hence physics is not higher than average

  • The subject with the lowest actual spending was also the subject with the smallest planned allocation.: Art meets this criteria

Shouldn't the first statement be wrong since the smallest-percentage deviation in magnitude asks for an absoulte value, and thus the second smallest deviation would be 6%?
Correct me if I'm wrong.

The question starts with " Among the subjects that were underspent,....", so all comparison remains within that group.

in Q1 it states - Among the subjects that were underspent, the one with the second-highest planned allocation also had the second-smallest percentage deviation in magnitude.

Shouldn't the magnitude be the absolute value of percent deviation? in which case it should be no

sghosh1096 yes, magnitude means the absolute value of the percentage deviation and that is why the answer is YES.

The underspent subjects (negative percentage deviation) are History, Literature and Computer, out of which literature is the one with the second highest planned allocation. If you look at the absolute value of percentage deviation, it is 7.9% which is the second highest among the above three subjects.

What is your doubt here?
