Assume the purchase price to be $8, making the shipping costs equal to $1. The sales tax then would be 1/12($8 + $1) = $9/12.
The total of the shipping cost and the sales tax would be $1 + $9/12 = $21/12 = $7/4, which would be (7/4)/8 = 7/32 of the purchase price.
Answer: B.
