Tricky one!
Days on end is an idiom that means several days. The tricky part is the comma after For days. Correct usage of the idiom is on end but options other than (E) do not make sense logically.
A. For days, at end, I have sat on the step of an old mosque -- at end is wrong / using step instead of steps B. For days, at end, I have sat on the steps of an old mosque -- at end is wrong C. For days, in the end, I have sat on the steps of an old mosque -- in the end does not make sense logically D. For days, in the end, I have sat out the steps of an old mosque -- in the end does not make sense logically E. For days, on the end, I have sat on the steps of an old mosque -- correct
Cheers!
