You can do this without calculator as well. It's already given that the no of performances is 24722.
Now divide this by 20 to get mean.
There is no use of calculator in this Q.

1. I would definitely use calculator here. Way too close for comfort. But, only realised after trying to estimate.
Should I have tried with calculator from the start? Do anyone have strategies here?

How come composers born in the 1700s accounted for less than a third of the total performances ?
We have 10,51 from those who were born in 1700s, which is bigger than the 1/3 of the total number of performances.

Could anyone explain it please?

There are only 4 born in the 1700's and you can estimate them to be slightly under 8000 by just using approximation.
