For how many integer values of n does the expression 100/(n - 7) yield an integer?

A. 4
B. 9
C. 12
D. 16
E. 18

We need to determine for how many integers n is (n – 7) a factor of 100.

Since 100 = (2^2)(5^2), 100 has a total of (2 + 1)(2 + 1) = 9 positive factors and a total of 9 negative factors.

Each of the 9 + 9 = 18 factors of 100 could be used to determine a different possible value of n.

For example, if n – 7 = 50, which is a factor of 100, then n = 50 + 7 = 57.

So, there are 18 integers n such that 100/(n – 7) is an integer.

Answer: E
