1) ax² + bx + c > 0 , where a > 0 and say p and q are the roots ( q having smaller value and p the larger value) then the inequality will hold good for values of x where x>p and x 0 and say p and q are the roots ( q having smaller value and p the larger value) then the inequality will hold good for values of x where q < x < p, in other words ; when the inequality sign is lesser than , the value of x lies between the two roots p and q

In essence,

1. will translate to (x-p)(x-q) > 0 where p>q.....thus, x > p and x > q => x > p.
or x x q.....thus, x > p and x q.......or, x q => q<x<p.
