Re: For zoologists studying the behavior of certain species of birds, the [#permalink]
Option C - Establishing nets must not happen in the location since they leave the location to build nests
Option D - Must happen since as per passage info it is the place where many individuals of species interact for mating and exhibit social structure

I think
must happen - D (because birds need to gather within their own species for courtship displays)
must not happen - E (because if there is territorial competition, birds will not return to the same place and data wont be accurate for year on year)

Must happen : Gathering with member of their own species

Because argument say if not all then some of birds return to their morefa after breeding period gets over. So its not true for all.

Must not happen : "Occupying location multiple times"

Pls share the answer

Must not happen :Per the passage the birds abandon the area to establish their nests,so we can under that in morefa 'establishing nests' must not happen.

Must Happen :Breeding, Courtship display,& Social hierarchy view show that gathering together with members of their ownership' must happen in Morefa

Official Explanation

Infer the meaning of a term from the way that term is used in the information provided.

RO1, Must happen in the location: Infer

The excerpt indicates that, by studying a species in its morefa, “researchers can study changes in group dynamics,” including “the courtship displays of many different individuals within a species” and “the species’ social hierarchy.” For researchers to observe such group behaviors of a species in a morefa requires

that members of that species gather with other members of their species in such locations.

The correct answer is D, Gathering together with members of their own species.

RO2, Must not happen in the location: Infer

The excerpt indicates that birds will abandon their morefa “to establish their nests.” Thus, on the basis of the information provided, it is inconsistent for a bird to establish a nest in its morefa, which corresponds to the third of the available choices.

The correct answer is C, Establishing nests.

This post is a part of Project IR Butler 2019-20. Click here for Details

The following excerpt from a fictitious science news report discusses a fictitious type of location called a morefa.

For zoologists studying the behavior of certain species of birds, the critical importance of observing the birds in those species' morefa during the annual breeding season is obvious. Such observation allows researchers to study not only the courtship displays of many different individuals within a species, but also the species' social hierarchy. Morever, since some species repeatedly return to the same morefa, researchers can study changes in group dynamics from year to year. The value of observing a morefa when the birds are not present, however -- such as prior to their arrival or after they have abandoned the area to establish their nests -- is only now becoming apparent.

Based on the definition of the imaginary word morefa that can be inferred from the previous paragraph, which of the following activities of a bird species must happen in a location for that location to be teh species' morefa, and which must NOT happen in a location for that location to be the species' morefa? Make only two selections, one in each column.

Must happen: gathering together with members of their ownership
Must not happen: establishing nests

Why Occupying the location multiple times is not correct?
the passage provides "Some species repeatedly return to the same morefa" Is it not the same thing?

I agree with D, but B states- occupying the location multilpe times, which is clearly supported by the argument "Moreover, since some species repeatedly return to the same morefa", please tell me how do we reject this option?

Question : which of the following activities of a bird species must happen in a location for that location to be the species' morefa
Selecting 'occupying the location multilpe times' for Must happen in the location

Meaning, bird species must occupy location multiple times for that location to be the species' morefa.

Implies, if a bird species don't occupy location multiple times, then that location is not species' morefa.

But we are given : Moreover, since some species repeatedly return to the same morefa.

Not all species repeatedly return to the same morefa. So, even if some species don't return repeatedly, the location still could be species' morefa. (as per passage)
