I was supposed to take my GMAT online exam, but the proctor said that my temporary driver's license was not valid. The temporary driver's license is a paper license issued by the DMV until the new one comes in. He says that this form of ID is not valid, even though this is the only government issued ID that I have. What do I do???

Sorry to hear of your troubles, sangyoon1228. To be honest, this sounds like one you will just have to wait out. How long does it take for the permanent license to be issued once you have received a temporary license? Do you have to do anything to set those gears in motion? Alternatively, I suppose you could apply for a passport, but, apart from an exception involving a military cadet I once knew who was issued a U.S. passport overnight, I know that this process tends to take longer and involve more steps. I would recommend waiting, most likely, and continuing to prepare in the interim. There are always ways to improve.

Hi sangyoon1228,

The issue here is ultimately about 'test security' - and whether the person who is taking the Exam is the actual person who is scheduled to take it. I'm going to assume that your paper ID card is an actual ID for you, but if the ID does not include a picture, then there is no way for the Test Moderator to know that for sure. You would almost certainly face this same issue at a physical Test Center; you still need to be able to verify your identification - and in this type of situation, a photo ID is the only practical way to do it. As AndrewN has pointed out, you will likely have to wait to take the Official GMAT until you have a formal photo ID (such as a Driver's License or Passport) to present on Test Day.
