Dude, I would avoid generalizing on behalf of everyone. If you talk like this in b-school or the corporate world, you will get your ass kicked.

Thanks for the advice dude.
But I am not talking in a B-school or the corporate world. Trust me this is not something I do on a regular basis.

Does anyone who is knowledgeable on the region have any insights? Is India just a few steps behind China in terms of becoming an economic superpower, or is it just puffery?

Since I'm an Indian and have been one for 22 years, I guess I'm pretty well qualified to answer your question.
What do you mean by a superpower??

If you mean GDP, yes India is gonna be big. Probably even bigger than the US by the middle of this century.

If you mean per capita income, India isnt anywhere near the developed nations and the situation is unlikely to change even through the course of this 'Indian' century. (Imagine, India's population is greater than that of the US and EU combined)

If living standards are a criteria, then India is a laggard here. Primary education, health and sanitation are huge concerns and I dont see the Govt doing anything to improve the situation.

To put simply, the humongous rise in India's GDP will only increase the rich-poor divide. India will probably have more billionaires than any other country (save for US), but it still won't be a great place to live for poor majority.
Just my 2 cents oops sorry 2 paise. :)

Ultra-elite US - YES.
Ultra-elite Europe - NO.
Elite US - Maybe.

These are the students who would if they take GMAt have say an average of 700+ in GMAT and 3.5+ GPA. Just imagine competing with such a pool of applicatns and having a selectivity of 1.25 %

While I get your point and do not mean to be disrespectful to IIM, ask yourself the following question: If admitted to IIM-A and an Ultra Elite US school or Top European school, which would you choose and why? I'd say you'd choose the US or European school every time, but could be wrong. Please enlighten us.

Thanks. L.

I am talking of selectivity and not opportunity

its very clear that ultraelite gives better opportunity for those who dont mind settling abroad.

Given My goals of $$$ and dont care which country i land up in I would choose Ultra elite US college over IIM

But the argument was on selectivity and not opportunity after MBA.

The cost factor makes it prohibitive for many indians to study in US colleges and also for people with India goals would prefer IIM over Ultra elite
