solving x = 35000 pounds

Given the above information, we know that:

\([9][/11+9+23+7]\) = \([9][/50]\) --> \([9x][/50]\)=6300

x = 700 --> 700*50 = 35000

Four supporting beams (north, east, south, and west) are holding up a house with a weight distribution in the ratios 11:9:23:7, respectively. There is no other support for the house. If the eastern beam is holding 6300 pounds, what is the total weight of the house?

A. 3500
B. 31500
C. 35000
D. 315000
E. 378000

We can create the follow ratio:

north : east : south : west = 11x : 9x : 23x : 7x

Thus, the total weight of the house is 11x + 9x + 23x + 7x = 50x

Since the eastern beam is holding 6300 pounds:

6300 = 9x

x = 700

Thus, the total weight of the house is 50 x 700 = 35,000 pounds.

Answer: C
