Solution:

Recall that 1.5 = 15/10 and 1.2 = 12/10. Rewriting, we obtain:

1.5x/1.2y = (15x/10) / (12y/10)

To divide two fractions, we multiply the dividend with the reciprocal of the divisor; thus we obtain:

(15x/10)/(12y/10) = (15x/10)*(10/12y) = 15x/12y = 5x/4y

Alternate Solution:

First, multiply the numerator and the denominator by 10:

1.5x / 1.2 y

15x / 12y

Now reduce the fraction by dividing top and bottom by 3:

5x / 4y
