The question really is a divisbilty question in my mind.
Total # of Books (T) = Hardcover (H) + Non-Hardcover (N) => T = H + N
We also know that H = 2N, so let's make this simple and plug in 2N for H in our original equation.
T = 2N + N, which now becomes T = 3N. This means that T must been divisible by 3 since you cant half a non-whole book.
