Hi All,
As I start out choosing the right test prep course or self stufy, I've attended a few free events. If you know of any free resources to utilize it would be greatly helpful. Thanks
Princeton review - free math boot camp for gre/gmat
This was a free in person session in NYC. The class reviewed basic concepts and practice problems seen in the gre/gmat. Almost every one except for two people out of 15-20 people were Gre. The instructor was very interactive with the class asking student what answer they got. The instructor was able to walk through all problems in a very logical format. The instructor focused on math skill more than test taking skills of random guessing, plug in. The takeaway packet of math summary notes are very helpful and the overall class was useful. I would recommend to anyone looking for a free class and math refresher. Although the class was very helpful in highlighting how the gmat/gre tests on very basic skills can be still tricky, overall what the class taught me was don't pay for a class with them because most of the attendees couldn't do basic multiplication and the class went very slow for these students.
Kaplan - online session 3 hours
Overall a good class. Presentation of the class is the kaplan software for which virtual classes are conducted with a whiteboard/question area, video of the instructor on the too left corner, TAs to answer questions in a private q&a area, public area for messaging, voting capability to indicate your answer choice. This class focused in on key gmat techniques and seemed well representive of an online class. I would recommend to anyone who is at least considering taking a online class to see the format of a class. Unfortunately the video quality was bad and the voice kept cutting out, and the voting capability of correct answers were maintained for only a couple of seconds. The overall class seemed a tad slow and I quickly got distracted with gmail, Facebook etc. this may be an issue for someone who studies better in class and needs to be in person to focus. The instructor also solved for too many classes in the demo with plugging in answers without actually trying to solve the problems. He went over math and verbal questions.
