Ok so I took a stab at the GMAT and clicked yes to the "do you want spam" question.

Some schools offer paid visits, even for cross borders. I feel bad about taking them up on it if I don't plan on applying but one of them is near a great tourist spot.

Not so easy to ignore anymore... might end up flipping a coin on this one.

Interesting... I have heard of schools paying for trips to an admitted students weekend (to increase yield rate) but did not realize they would try to woo you even without an application.

You can always call the school and say you would be happy to come but chances of you actually applying are pretty slim - do they still want you to come and give it a shot? That way, the ethical dilemma is out of question (and I would not be surprised if they said, yes do come even if you are not planning to apply)

I had not seen this either. Across borders? That's expensive for an admitted applicant, let alone someone who is only a prospective applicant.

I've actually received invitations from three programs without applying...some offer a hotel only while others also cover transportation costs.

Not only cross borders but cross oceans. At first I wanted to do it just to recoup the whopper charged by GMAC for taking the test (whose customer service didn't speak English btw) but I cannot take it out on the school. Eff it, I'll stay put and pay for my own vacations.
