Dear GMAT club,
My name is Akshay Srivastava. I have been studying for GMAT for about 4 months now (out of which 2 months were spent going to weekend batches at Jamboree coaching for GMAT classes and another 2 have been spent practicing material full time). I have given GMAT once before (about an year ago). In my first GMAT I scored a 570 with V29Q38. Initially I had used
magoosh program to self study and I had exhaustively used their material to develop a basic understanding of the concepts. My initial mocks ranged anywhere from 550 to 650 Q45-46V34-35 (I have mentioned a range as I had gotten this score of 650 twice or thrice). I sat for my final exam under a lot of external stress due to personal reasons and scored poorly.
Finally I decided to get back up on the saddle and joined Jamboree coaching institute to improve my overall score. I still has retained my
magoosh subscription as I paused it so I could use it in the future. I started the program which consisted of weekend batches of about 3.5hrs on both sat and sun for quant and verbal for about 3 months. I then decided to take a sabbatical from work to focus solely on my gmat prep and started to study 7 hours a day solving questions from both the jamboree portal and
magoosh courseware (Not to badmouth any program, but personally I did not find the material in Jamboree portal for quant apt and preferred
Magoosh). I stuck with Jamboree for my verbal prep owing to their exhaustive material, good explanation and frankly great English mentor.
I have given a couple of mocks (including the non-CATs offered by Jamboree, CATs by
Magoosh and finally the official mocks). My first mock was in the beginning of my sabbatical on
magoosh in which I got a mere 530V29Q33 which lit the fire under me to work hard. I have done about 2-3k questions intotal and suffer in SC and Quant. I worked alot exhausting all the material I could on
Magoosh for Quant and using Jamboree for Verbal. I have not gone through OG as Jamboree material is primarily taken from OG so is automatically covers that. Once I was done with my prep I started giving my Mocks starting from Jamboree where my scores were as follows:
690 V33-35 Q45-47
630 V33-35 Q34-36
650 V31-33 Q39-41
670 V29-33 Q45-47
670 V29-31 Q46-48
After noticing a pattern I though I would start with my official mocks and here are the results from the official mocks
730 Q49V40 (Took a long pause between Q and V because of an emergency)
620 Q41V35
660 Q46V36
700 Q48V38
650 Q42V38
680 Q44V38
I though I would finally go and give the paper and booked it for the 23rd and got an abysmal 630 V31 and 45.
My profile: I haven’t been much of an academic performer and I had to work really hard to grasp concepts. More-so I don’t test very well and would call myself test-anxious. I wanted to give the GmAT online because it would be soothing to sit in the same environment but went against this gut feeling. I do not have a stellar academic profile but had been improving my CGPA in college from 6.14 in the beginning to 8.5 by the last semester constantly. I am kinda scared of Maths in general but I have worked as much as I could despite that fear
My situation: I have been given another month off from work and am planning to grind some more to get the fabled 700+. I wish to get into investment banking and am planning to give apply to colleges like Oxford or LBS as UK is known to be a great place to get into investment banking. I would consider myself a hard worker (who doesn’t, but anyway) and I believe that I can grind pretty hard in this final month and secure myself a decent score.
I am writing here to understand if this is a fruitful endeavor. I feel like with little bit of help I can get through this final blockade. I am thinking of getting TTP for 1 month and go through the material and work up mocks to see if I can improve my score. From today I have about 1 month and 1 week. I don’t want to take any days off, I have tried and I won’t be able to breathe freely unless I get this to be honest (Dramatic! I know, but true)
I need help in understanding how to move forward with this.
