From the archives. This one should muster up some good discussion.

Most people today, if they have any image at all of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, picture him as resembling the caricature portrayed in Orson Welles' classic film Citizen Kane

A) picture him as resembling
B) picture him to resemble
C) imagine him to be like
D) would imagine him as
E) see him as being similar as

One more for "B"

Most people today,.......picture him to resemble........clear match compared to other 4 choices....

Since the "if" part is a condition, I think.

Go with D

Vivek, would you "bet the farm" on that answer?

Hmmm, actually not.
I think I made a mistake.

Most people today, if they have any image at all of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst...

"D" fits in well. Changing my answer to "D".
I think now I "bet the farm"!

Be careful Vivek, that farm is your little girl`s future college tuition trust fund. If you are right, she goes to Harvard, however if you are wrong she goes to a local community college. Are you 100% sure that D is the right answer? Pressure...pressure.... :? :? :? :madd Place your bets!

Matt,

This is new me :war , out of sleep mode ;) but it didn't let me sleep in peace.

Well, I think "D" sounds good because of "would" but I'm nervous about usage of "as" at the end.

Let me do the analysis again,

A) picture him as resembling
>> I think this is best of the rest!

B) picture him to resemble
>> It sounds as if people picture him "purposly", so out.

C) imagine him to be like
>> My ears didn't like this. This also sounds "purposly"

D) would imagine him as
>> "would" is good but "as" is wrong usage to compare nouns.

E) see him as being similar as
>> awkward. Also, "as" is used to compare nouns

Now please post the OA & OE. I have told my daughter that I'll tell if my answer is correct! :? Also, what is the source of this brutal SC?

Vivek, congratulations my friend because you just doubled your net worth! Additionally, "little Vivek" gets to wear the bright crimson jacket :-D :-D   The OA is "A" and the OE is :good Source is from deep within the GMAT club archives. Not too many new posts these days so I`ve had to keep myself busy digging deep into the depths of this forum. You would be surprised how far the records go back (got this question from Aug 2004).

Dear Matt,

Thank you so much :-D I surely would love to see my daughter in "that" jacket, after ~25-30 years! Unless she would like to be a singer by profession (looks like that ;))

Thanks for the SC ! It was actually simple but I guess I made it look brutal :? Guess, our forum has real gold burried in the grave! :-D

Let's keep up the tempo!

Cheers :)

Hey Andy,

One important thing is, do not go to beat the beast if you are disturbed on other fronts. I think you should settle the things at work or personal life first, be calm, reach the peak potential again on GMAT & go for it, anyway, we are all targeting fall 2007, so postponing it for couple of weeks or even month(s) should be ok, we'll have you with us for some more time :)

As many people on this forum have said, the key for GMAT is not only studies but also stable & calm mind! :-D

What do you say people?

I agree with Vivek. If there are a lot of uncertainties on the personal front, it is even difficult to go out and enjoy a decent dinner.

On the other hand, if you want to take out your frustration on the test you could try that too. Moreover, as far as I know, if you cancel in two days you will loose all your money. May be you should go with the attitude that "I got nothing to lose" do your best.
If you feel confident about your the Quant performance and Verbal may be you can click and accept the score or cancel the test without looking at the score!

Go through gsr's post here:
https://www.gmatclub.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=21914

Infact he mentioned that after his Quant, (which he thought he had screwed up big time), he was very relaxed and that made him perfrom really well on Verbal.

If you are not in a good frame of mind you can leave it here and pick up after a break. It's your choice.

Cheer up! Just look at the positive side, you still have your job and an absolutely fantastic brain too!
