From the time 6:15 p.m. to the time 7:45 p.m. of the same day, the minute hand of a standard clock describes an arc of

(A) 30°

(B) 90°

(C) 180°

(D) 540°

(E) 910°

Minute hand will make a straight line which divide the clock into 2 equal halfs so 360/2=180 degree.

Since there are 360 degrees in a circle and 60 minutes in an hour, each minute represents 360/60 = 6 degrees.

Since the time elapsed from 6:15 pm to 7:45 pm is 1 hour 30 minutes, or 90 minutes, the minute hand must have swept an arc of 90 x 6 = 540 degrees.

Alternate Solution:

From 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm, the minute hand has made an entire circular rotation, which equals 360 degrees.

From 7:15 pm to 7:45 pm, the minute hand has made half a circular rotation, which is 180 degrees.

In total, then, from 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm, an angle of 360 + 180 = 540 degrees is swept.
